Terminate a periodic tenancy

< Back to list

Under the Standard Terms (cl 88) a tenant may terminate a periodic tenancy agreement by giving written notice of intention to vacate to the landlord or agent (always keep a copy).

The notice period must be at least 3 weeks, and specify the date you will be leaving the premises. If you vacate without notice during a periodic tenancy, you will be liable for up to 3 weeks’ rent in lieu of notice (RTA s 63), but not for any of the costs involved in reletting the premises.
